April and May are the months when new teachers are making BIG decisions about their futures...will they return next year?...what will they do differently?...what will they work on over the summer to prepare for the next year?...will they focus on their vision or will they settle for something less?
Mentoring and coaching are as important during these last days of school as in the first days of school. This is a critical time for conversations about decision-making and effectiveness. The great challenge is for exhausted mentors who are also counting down the days to find the energy and inner resources to provide direction and support for their proteges during this busy, stressful time.
Consider using one of the tools from the mentor notebook to lead new teachers in a "here's my vision, this is where I am now, and this is what I need to do" conversation.
